Affect helps pro-bono client, Girls Write Now, develop strategic business plan for growth and expansion of charitable mission.
NEW YORK -- September 2, 2009 -- Affect Strategies, a public relations, marketing and social media firm specializing in technology, has announced its pro bono services for Girls Write Now, New York’s only nonprofit dedicated to assisting underserved or at-risk high school girls through the provenly effective combination of mentoring and writing. Girls Write Now (GWN) provides guidance, support and opportunities for young girls, ages 13-19, enabling them to develop their creative, independent voices, explore careers in professional writing, and learn how to make healthy choices in school, career and life. Affect has collaborated with GWN to develop a strategic business plan that will guide the growth and activities of the organization for the next two years, allowing the organization to accommodate the rising demand for its services.
“We chose to donate our services to Girls Write Now because we feel the goals and mission of the organization directly align with that of our profession,” said Sandra Fathi, president and founder of Affect Strategies. “Writing is one of the founding pillars of public relations, and we understand the important role that it plays in helping young women to achieve their personal and professional goals. We also recognized that the organization needed more than public relations, including strategic business guidance in order to grow the organization and secure its future success.”
Since 1998, GWN has helped nearly 2,500 at-risk girls from New York City’s public high schools develop into the next generation of writers and readers. GWN offers programs including: one-to-one mentoring relationships with professional women writers; intensive, genre-based writing workshops; college preparation; and performance and publication. Girls Write Now’s mentees are a dynamic, diverse group of girls who have demonstrated a strong commitment to growing as writers. GWN’s community of dedicated mentors and volunteers includes sophisticated female novelists, poets, playwrights, journalists, essayists and educators who work for publications and institutions such as The New York Times, The Village Voice, Essence Magazine, McGraw-Hill, Simon & Schuster and Columbia University.
“As a nonprofit organization, it is crucial for us to find supporters that are passionate about what we do,” said Maya Nussbaum, founder and executive director of Girls Write Now. “Through the formation of this strategic business plan, the Affect team has demonstrated their true belief in our vision, allowing us to better codify tools to evaluate the strategic direction of Girls Write Now. Their guidance and support will help us help future generations of female writers.”
Through this strategic business plan, Affect has provided Girls Write Now with the tools for executing comprehensive campaigns that identify the key target audiences needed to support the expansion of the organization. This plan also offers the organization additional avenues for revenue generation and event marketing, which will allow Girls Write Now to help even more young girls through their programs and services.
